Our department conducts investigations into the following areas of interest : 
Mycology
The division of mycology is devoted to investigation of fungal organisms causing skin diseases. Current interest of this division is to identify P. ovale, a normal flora of human skin, as an causative organism inducing various skin diseases, including atopic dermatitis and seborrheic dermatitis. The method used in this study includes western blot analysis and RT-PCR. 

Biochemistry
The division of biochemistry is devoted to investigation of basic biochemical process involved in normal physiology of skin. For example, the distribution and function of peroxiredoxin, an antioxidant, is identified by immunohistochemical stain and western blot analysis. 

Skin bioengineering
The division of skin bioengineering is devoted to investigation of mainly physical properties of skin. For example, under various conditions, the skin color, the capacitance and temperature of skin is measured by specialized tools. This division also investigates the barrier function of the skin. 

In addtion, our department is also interstested in dermatopathology, skin immunology and tissue engineering
