The Chonnam National University Hospital (Young Keun Ahn, President) recently engaged in voluntary medical services for homeless aimed at realization of healthier society at the Honamdong Catholic Church in Dong-gu, Gwangju.
This voluntary medical service was executed by the Chonnam National University Hospital and Gwangju Catholic Social Welfare Association in accordance with the ‘agreement on business activities to guarantee the health and medical safety net for the homeless on the streets’ in order to provide medical services to socially alienated classes. Accordingly, both organizations have continued to engage in voluntary medical service activities for homeless 5 times since April last year.
For this event, the Chonnam National University Hospital composed voluntary medical service team with 22 staffs including 8 physicians from 7 medical departments including gastroenterology, pulmonology, ophthalmology, cardiovascular medicine, infectious disease medicine, rehabilitation medicine and dermatology, etc.
This team treated 25 homeless people residing on the streets in the general region of Geumnam-ro and provided various medical supplies including KF94 masks, towel, common cold medicine and pain relief patches, etc.
In addition, the team conducted consultations and education on rehabilitation exercise, stop smoking, nutrition and management of cerebro-cardiovascular diseases, etc.
