About Dept. of Psychiatry
The Department of Psychiatry is a branch of medicine concerning the study and treatment of mental (and/or behavioral) disorders and individual behavior associated with mental health and pathological conditions. That is, it aims to diagnose, treat, and prevent mental disorders with various causes such as biological, psychological, social, and environmental factors.
Diseases and disorders treated by the Department of Psychiatry include schizophrenia, depression, bipolar disorder, and delusional disorder associated with psychotic symptoms as well as neuroses such as anxiety disorder, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, conversion disorder, and dissociation. Other conditions include mental and physical disorders, somatization disorder, sexual dysfunction, sleep disorder, stress disorder, eating disorder, impulse control disorders, adjustment disorder, dementia such as Alzheimer's disease with obvious organic causes in the brain, organic mental disorder, behavioral problems due to epilepsy, etc. The department also deals with all sorts of behavioral issues such as autism, attention disorder, learning disabilities and other developmental disorders in children, psychotropic substance abuse, and personality disorder.
