About Dept. of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine
The Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine is largely divided into anesthesia for surgical patients, pain treatment and critical care.
1) Anesthesia for Surgical Patients
With the advances in medicine and aging of the population, patient conditions are becoming more and more complex, and on top of that, there are growing cases of surgery requiring advanced skills, such as heart surgery, organ transplantation, surgery for congenital deformities, cerebrovascular surgery, and so on. This has in turn led to further development of anesthesiology. The Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine carries out various types of anesthesia procedures, including but not limited to cardiothoracic and vascular anesthesia, trigeminal nerve block, pediatric anesthesia, obstetric anesthesia, organ transplant anesthesia, and geriatric anesthesia. Equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment such as computerized anesthesia device, echocardiograph, cardiac output meter, anesthesia depth monitor, flexible laryngoscope, and patient monitoring device, the department is dedicated to ensuring patient safety during surgery.
2) The Pain Treatment Clinic focuses on diagnosing and treating all types of acute and chronic pain that can occur throughout the body. After diagnosing the pain as low back pain, headache, trigeminal neuralgia, postherpetic neuralgia, shoulder pain caused by frozen shoulder, extreme pain caused by cancer, postoperative pain, etc., appropriate treatment is provided. For pain treatment, the medical staff uses the latest advanced medical equipment such as image intensifiers for nerve block procedures, ultrasound therapy machines, electrical nerve stimulators, and laser therapy devices.
3) Critical Care
The Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine provides intensive care to patients in critical condition after surgery. For instance, Surgical ICU patients with poor respiratory function are provided with a ventilator to supply oxygen, while low blood pressure patients are supplied with infusions for hydration and nutrition so that their blood pressure and cardiac output can be maintained at normal levels. For those with compromised kidney functions and other functions, intensive care is provided by consulting with specialists.
