It is projected that some of the leading causes of death in the world in the next 20 years will be chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (3rd),pneumoniaandrespiratoryfailure(4th),lungcancer(5th),andtuberculosis(7th).

The Department of Pulmonology focuses on treating and researching major diseases of the respiratory tract and the aforementioned conditions as well as bronchiectasis, pleural disease, pulmonary thromboembolism, interstitial pulmonary disease, and sleep apnea, in addition to performing lung transplantation.
