The Department of Orthopedic Surgery specializes in surgical treatment of the hip and pelvis, knee joint, feet, hands, upper limbs, and spine as well as pediatric and orthopedic oncology.

Orthopedic spine surgery is performed to treat scoliosis, herniated intervertebral disk (slipped disk), spinal stenosis, and spondylolisthesis. Hand and upper limb surgery is performed to treat shoulder conditions such as rotator cuff tear, shoulder impingement syndrome and frozen shoulders as well as hand diseases such as carpal tunnel syndrome. The field of knee joint surgery mainly concerns arthroscopic surgery for artificial knee replacement, proximal tibial osteotomy, ligament injury, and cartilaginous plate damage. Hip and pelvic surgery concerns artificial hip replacement and surgery for avascular necrosis of the femoral head and pelvic bone fracture. Pediatric orthopedic surgery is aimed at treating developmental dysplasia of the hip, Legg-Calve-Perthes, avascular necrosis of the proximal femoral epiphysis in children, cerebral palsy and various malformations that occur in children. Chonnam National University Hospital Department of Orthopedic Surgery has made the greatest achievements when it comes to the treatment of and research in Legg-Calve-Perthes in Korea.

Moreover, orthopedic oncology concerns treating bone, soft tissue and metastatic tumors. As for the orthopedic foot and ankle program, artificial ankle replacement surgery, hallux valgus, arthroscopic procedure for ankle cartilage damage, and treatment for ankle sprain and ligaments injuries, and diabetic foot ulcers are provided.
