Chonnam National University Hospital (General Director Lee, Sam-Yong) held an opening ceremony for the cyclotron room that has received Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certification for the first in Gwangju region as well as the Molecular Imaging New Drug Development Center (hereinafter referred to as MIND) and started the manufacturing and production of radio pharmaceuticals in full scale.
MIND is a high-tech medical facility that develops radio pharmaceuticals for customized treatments according to the properties of illnesses by using radioactive tracer materials that can look into the movements in cell or gene units or analyze the characteristics of tumor cells and others in detail.
The MIND which has opened this time is equipped with the latest cyclotron (18MeV·IBA, Belgium) and hot cells equipped with various synthetic devices (F-18, C-11, N-13) and synthetic laboratory for radio pharmaceuticals, latest pre-clinical  SuperArgus PET/CT (Sedecal, Spain) and others.
With this, it is expected to bring about innovative changes in precision diagnosis using molecular imaging by producing new radio pharmaceuticals such as not only F-18 FDG which is currently being widely used in tumor field but also C-11 acetate for liver cancer diagnosis, F-18 amyloid for dementia diagnosis, N-13 ammonia for cardiovascular diseases, F-18 fluoride for diagnosis of metastatic tumor diagnosis in skeletal system and others.
Chonnam National University Hospital held the opening ceremony of MIND held in hospital's Ward 6 on the 23rd last month under the presence of the Hospital's General Director Lee, Sam-Yong, medical teams including Prof. Song, Ho-Cheon, General Director of Nuclear Medicine Department as well as employees.
On this day, General Director Lee, Sam-Yong revealed that "Following the opening of MIND, we are now equipped with the best treatment and research system that could receive accreditation internationally" and that "In particular, we hope that researches using PET/CT with the center would become active".
